{"id":1977,"date":"2018-05-20T18:48:32","date_gmt":"2018-05-20T17:48:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.domesday86.com\/?page_id=1977"},"modified":"2018-05-21T19:17:35","modified_gmt":"2018-05-21T18:17:35","slug":"the-soft-option-interactive-video-rom-cartridge","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.domesday86.com\/?page_id=1977","title":{"rendered":"The Soft Option &#8211; Interactive Video ROM Cartridge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Soft Option was a third-party company that made interactive video solutions based around the Domesday system.\u00a0 Some of their sales literature is available from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.domesday86.com\/?page_id=535\">Domesday Documents<\/a> section of this site.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\" UFICommentActorAndBody\"><span data-ft=\"{&quot;tn&quot;:&quot;K&quot;}\"><span class=\"UFICommentBody\">This cartridge is part of a system called INTAVIEW and there were two versions of the INTAVIEW 'system' supported by the cartridge. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\" UFICommentActorAndBody\"><span data-ft=\"{&quot;tn&quot;:&quot;K&quot;}\"><span class=\"UFICommentBody\">The first version was an AIV Enhancement kit (cartridge, floppy software and a cable (most likely serial)) that allowed Acornsoft Microtext (a programming language for interactive systems) to work with a stock Domesday AIV.\u00a0 The second was a 'conversion kit' that included a genlock\/video mix board to work with other LVDPs that supported serial control (Philips 400 series, Philips 800 series and the Sony LDP1500P).<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\" UFICommentActorAndBody\"><span data-ft=\"{&quot;tn&quot;:&quot;K&quot;}\"><span class=\"UFICommentBody\">It was originally developed for the British Telecom Management Training College (before the release of Domesday in 1985) and later adopted by Interactive Video in Schools (IVIS) since you could 'add it on' to an existing AIV system (making it a cost effective solution for schools who already had AIV systems).
